Chapter 6

Doll face is a great example of audience interpretation. This is because the work can be viewed by people in different ways and each persons mind will perceive it in a different way depending on their own emotions and feelings. People may also relate to this due to past or present experiences. Although the basic storyline is a girl trying to be as perfect as “magazine women”, there are many different angles this can be viewed from. It deals with pier pressure and the media’s influence on young children. Many people in my class gave a lot of different views on the video. The majority of girls had strong feelings whereas the boys had less questions and opinions towards it. This is because girls are pressured into making their selves look better because of constant change in fashion and ‘fake beauty’. These different interpretations are important because it shows individuality. Without individuality each piece of work would be the same of very similar, art is all about diversity and pieces of work that are different from others. The most respected art is based around emotion. This emotion is from the artists past experiences and individuality and no one has been through the same situations as each other, so these differences inspire the artists.

Chapter 4

The use of exhibition space effects the meaning of the work by a great deal. Every piece of work is classed as art but if your work gets placed in a museum or gallery it automatically becomes a valuable masterpiece. Places such as the tate which host work are highly respected and view by millions, this gives the artist some recognition and also gives the piece of work a bigger and deep meaning. People assume pieces of art are in a gallery because they are great pieces and therefore have a great meaning. Once a piece is placed in a gallery people will spend more time thinking about what the meaning is and why it is there.

Chapter 3

In Doll Face, the story line is complex and because there is no narrative, it can be perceived in many different ways. The author has added a soft, sad piece of background music which subliminally helps the audience to understand what the clip is about. This delicate touch is very important to this video and is a good example of how powerful a piece of music is. The structure of the story has a clear beginning middle and end which means it is quite easy to follow. The author has created the atmosphere through not using narrative, this means the audience must use their own feelings to understand and follow the video. This clever effect creates the core emotion which is portrayed throughout the piece.

Chapter 2

The technology in each video is different mainly because of the year they were made. Girl Chewing Gum was made in 1976 so the quality of the video and sound is not as good quality as “Doll Face”. Also I think the amount of craft put in represents the quality of the piece. Such as; in ‘Girl Chewing Gum’; the camera barely moves and the whole craft is a voice over of the clip, whereas in Doll Face and MUTO, there is a high level of craft involved which shows the quality of each piece. The techniques used in each are very different. Each shows a different way of filming. A computer creation, Stop frame animation and the standard camera filming. All these different Techniques give a different meaning and each way of filming gives different advantages and effects.

Chapter 1

Doll face is an experimental video created by Andy Huang. It shows a robotic arm with a face extending towards a picture of a perfect girl on a television screen. As the girl on television improves, the tv movers further away and the robot stretches has to stretch further to improve its self to become like its idol. This carries on unlike the robot cannot stretch anymore and the body breaks and it crashes to the crash and the robots face smashes. Unlike 'MUTO', Doll face has a meaning behind it and can be interpreted by many people in different ways. It also creates emotion and a sad atmosphere. MUTO however, is an a very ambiguous piece and each person who watches it will have a different opinion. Unlike ‘Doll Face’ where there are limited ideas that can be interpreted by the viewer.

Unlike both of these ‘Girl Chewing Gum’ has no clear storyline. Arguably, MUTO could be said to have no storyline either, but if watched carefully there is a slight narrative surrounding the clip. Girl Chewing Gum is based around illusion and this creates the deception that the clip is a film set.

Although there are many clear visual differences between all three, there are many subliminal similarities such as way it makes viewers react and the way it draws people in to the concept and craft within each piece.

Chapter 5

Basic Plot
Boy is walking through town with his friend, he notices a good looking girl. They go over to speak to her, he gets her number and they walk off. He rings her up later and they meet to go to the bowling. After they finish they hug and say goodbye but as he does his girlfriend see's him, he turns around and see's her crying. She runs off, he looks at his phone and gets a text from her, she ends the relationship. Camera rewinds back to where he met the first girl and this time he deletes the number and texts his girlfriend saying "i love you".

This was influenced by a music video i saw on youtube called "DNA - Never wanna lose you" which involves a boy who used to meet a lot of girls but not stick with any, but he meets a girl he likes but is being unfaithful to her. He talks about if she finds out she'll end it with him but he has finally fell in love with someone so he can't tell her but inside he know she deserves better.

Actual Script and screne play

(camera in front of the girl as the boys are walking). Boy asks for the girls number (slight closeup on the mobile phones and then close up on the girl as she smiles) Camera blacks. Next scene camera is looking at the boy and girl talking outside the cinema. (High angle shot from the top of megaplex car park). Boy opens the door for her and she walks in (camera shot from both inside looking in and outside looking in) Random snap shots of them playing bowling. Finally slow shot as the boy and girl holding hands walking out the bowling allly. (shot from behind in slow motion). Next different shots of boy and girl hugging from all angles. (Slow quite music in the backround, possibly “Seether – Broken (acoustic instrumental then into real song) Close up of boys girlfriend looking on from outside the cinema, slowly turns around and looks shocked.
